From the Town of Devon through Parkland County and Leduc County to the southwest boundary of Edmonton
Scenic natural areas and nature-based adventures define this planning area. The Town of Devon’s Valley West Park is a logical departure point for excursions up and down the river. The County of Leduc’s Rabbit Hill could be expanded to include not only skiing and mountain biking, but also a regional day use area with connections to trails leading to key attractions such as the Devonian Botanic Garden and the Leduc #1 Interpretive Centre. A proposed new Rabbit Hill conference centre could attract people to a wide array of conferences, seminars and workshops in the midst of a breathtaking natural landscape. And a new Adventure Trail would test the skills of bike riders, runners and hikers beginning in Devon, moving through Parkland County, and extending to Terwilligar Park.
The history of the North Saskatchewan River Valley extends over 2 million years. Currently a shallow meandering river of 1 to 3 meters in depth, the North Saskatchewan River originates at the Saskatchewan Glacier and the Columbia Icefields in Banff National Park, now a vestige of the Cordilleran ice sheet. As the river winds through the 88 kilometers of the Capital Region River Valley Park, an interesting story unfolds.
