PICTURE 3,000 PADDLERS ON THE NORTH SASKATCHEWAN RIVER
TICKET REGISTRATION OPENS FOR EPCOR RIVERFEST
Ticket registration for the EPCOR RiverFest on-the-water float opened June 14 with a goal of doubling the number of paddlers over last year.
The two-day festival takes place Aug. 11 in Edmonton and Aug. 12 in Devon and Fort Saskatchewan. It showcases the many ways people can safely enjoy the river valley, and is highlighted by an organized float down the North Saskatchewan River that participants register online for in advance.
In its first year, EPCOR RiverFest attracted nearly 2,500 people including approximately 1,500 rafters. This year, the goal is 3,000 people on the water.
EPCOR RiverFest is organized through the not-for-profit organization, River Valley Alliance (RVA).
“What we’re hoping people will experience at EPCOR RiverFest is connection,” says RVA Executive Director Brent Collingwood. “Connection to the river valley and to nature, and a human connection with others over a shared love for this natural wonder that’s right here in our backyard. Because that’s really what the RVA is all about, and what we work in close collaboration with our seven municipal shareholders and government funders to achieve.”
The RVA is thrilled to have EPCOR return this year as the title sponsor.
“The North Saskatchewan River is our best kept secret. EPCOR RiverFest gives people the chance to find out why by providing raft and canoe experiences, and by highlighting the important role the river plays as a life source to our communities,” says Stuart Lee, EPCOR President & CEO. “EPCOR’s water operations touch every aspect of the river, as does our deep commitment to protecting it for future generations.”
