🍂 RVA Winter Bird Walk

Winter is a surprisingly wonderful time to explore the North Saskatchewan River Valley—especially for bird lovers!

With the leaves gone from the trees, winter offers excellent visibility for spotting birds and observing their activity throughout the river valley. While many species migrate south for the season, a variety of hardy year-round residents remain, making winter birding a unique experience.

Join the River Valley Alliance for a guided 2-hour Fall Bird Walk led by the knowledgeable team from Wildbird General Store.

Meeting Location: Alfred H. Savage Centre

Whitemud Park is one of Edmonton’s best locations for birdwatching, with its forested trails and river valley habitat providing an ideal setting to discover the birds that make this area their winter home.

Join us as we explore the trails, keep an eye and ear out for local birdlife, and discover just how active the river valley can be during the winter months.

What to Bring

🔭 Binoculars – Bring a pair if you have them.
🥾 Comfortable footwear – We will be walking on river valley trails for approximately three hours.
❄️ Weather-appropriate clothing – December weather can be cold and snowy, so please dress warmly and in layers for the conditions.             💧 Water – Bring enough to stay comfortable throughout the walk.

🔥 Warm up after the walk – A fire will be going at the end of the walk, where participants can warm up and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies together.

Registration is required, and space is limited. Please register in advance to reserve your spot.

If you register and can no longer attend, please cancel your registration as far in advance as possible so we can offer your space to someone else.
