In the early 1960's, local resident and boating enthusiast, Al Strachan, built a private dock at the river's edge where he could design, construct and operate cruise boats. To honour this prominent local citizen who passed away in the late 1980's, the City erected a viewing platform near that location in 1995. Strachan's Landing now offers local residents and visitors a panoramic view of the river.
In 2005 Strachan's Landing was expanded to include a paved pathway down to the river and a boat dock.
