Guided Walk with Talking Rock Tours

Date & Time:
Saturday, September 28
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Location:
John Walter Museum
We will start and end the tour in front of the museum.

Description:
Join us for a guided walk with Talking Rock Tours on the weekend of Truth and Reconciliation. Embark on a journey into Edmonton’s past as we hike to historic and sacred sites within North America’s largest urban green space, the Edmonton River Valley. Walk in the footsteps of Indigenous Peoples who have visited this sacred gathering place on Turtle Island for the last 10,000 years.

We will honour the local First Nations, Métis, and early European ancestors of amiskwacîwâskahikan (Beaver Hills House – the Nehiyawak (Cree) traditional territorial name for Edmonton) by observing tobacco protocol and participating in a smudge ceremony. Additionally, discover the extensive history of our region’s fur trade, which spanned 112 years from 1795 to 1907.

What to Wear:
We invite you to wear your “Every Child Matters” or an orange t-shirt supporting Truth and Reconciliation. Feel free to wear any Indigenous regalia, such as ribbon skirts and shirts, moccasins, sashes, and beaded items. Let’s come together in unity and respect for this meaningful event.

Parking:
Parking can be found at the Kinsmen Rec Centre, located beside the John Walter Museum.

Note:
This event is a wonderful opportunity to learn, reflect, and honour the rich history and traditions of the Indigenous Peoples of our region.

Cancellation Policy: Due to the limited availability and high demand for our walks, we do not offer refunds once a booking is made. However, we understand that plans can change, so we welcome transfers. If you can no longer attend, you are welcome to transfer your spot to another participant by notifying us.
