Join renowned mycologist Martin Osis for an engaging exploration of the mushrooms and fungi that thrive within the river valley ecosystem. As we walk the trails around Battery Creek, participants will learn how to identify common mushroom species, understand their important ecological roles, and gain insight into the complex relationships between fungi, plants, wildlife, and soil health.

This walk is designed for anyone with an interest in nature, whether you’re a seasoned mushroom enthusiast or simply curious about the hidden world beneath your feet. Along the way, Martin will share fascinating stories, identification tips, and observations about the incredible diversity of fungi found in Alberta.

Please note that this is an educational walk focused on learning and observation. Mushroom availability and species diversity will vary depending on weather conditions and seasonal growing patterns.

  • Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
  • The walk will take place rain or shine, except in cases of extreme weather.
  • Parking is available at the Battery Creek Trailhead.
  • Registration is required, and space is limited. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your registration to allow someone on the waitlist the opportunity to participate.
